Spirits of the Red Sand - Welcome to Country Daytime Experience

YOUR EXPERIENCE PROVIDER

Spirits of the Red Sand

Connect with the world’s oldest living culture as you are led by your Aboriginal guide to participate in all aspects of traditional Aboriginal culture.

Now, for the first time in Australia, you as visitors and locals can experience the ancient ceremony of Welcome to Country & Acknowledgment of Country within the environment of a pre – European Aboriginal Village. Not just a quick few words, but an amazing journey that allows you to feel Dreamtime in an interactive theatre, learn of and carry the message stick of acceptance to the elder of the village, go through the soul-cleansing smoking ceremony, feel the vibe of the world’s oldest continuous living culture to the sounds of the didgeridoo, ancient chants, dance and songs of the land. The only experience that brings you up close and personal with us, the Aboriginal people of Australia.

Insights into your experience

Your journey is divided into four stages:

Dreamtime Beliefs - Gain an understanding of Aboriginal Dreamtime beliefs and creation stories through this exciting AV presentation.

Welcome to Country formalities - A leader is selected, the message stick is presented to the Elder.  Your Aboriginal Guide  ‘welcomes’ one and all to the region of the Yugambeh and Kombomerri people as you pay respect to those who have gone before us and our ancestors’ spirits and you pass through a Smoking Ceremony to cleanse us of evil spirits.

Cultural Participation - Your Guide will share all aspects of our culture as you interact, participate and exchange hospitality.  From didgeridoo playing; boomerang painting; bush tucker tasting; dancing to spear throwing; fire lighting and an introduction to camp life.

Farewell - In our language, Yuwei – a traditional farewell firelighting and Corroboree (celebration dance) from our guides, never a complete goodbye – but a ‘see you later, if not in this world, then in our Father’s.’
