What to expect

Departing several times a day the NitNit Dreaming cruise is one of our most popular tours. A boat will take you to the end of the first gorge, where you will experience the beauty of the large boulders, rock pools and sands that make up the crossover to the second gorge.

Along the way cultural guides will share their knowledge about plants, animals, dreamtime stories and culture. Surrounded by the limestone escarpment, the scenery is second to none. Immerse yourself in the cultural significance and geology of the park - discover historical facts, such as how the river has been named.

The first two gorges are the longest ones in the 13 gorge system. The tours operate all year round, resulting in a dynamic experience depending on what season you visit. You will never get tired of the changing landscapes, from higher water levels and abundant vegetation in the wet season to exposed rock and clear blue skies in the dry season. Learn about why the entrance to the first gorge is referred to as Nitmiluk and the second gorge is called the Blue Winged Kookaburra.

The second gorge is the second longest at 2.4 km in length. The Jawoyn people believe the rainbow serpent ‘Bolung’ resides in the deep green pools of the second gorge and Dreamtime says ‘Bolung’ created the gorge. The escarpment walls on both sides exude a strong spirituality which you will likely feel.

The hanging gardens is a section of the gorge with an almost rainforest-like atmosphere. Water seeps through the natural sandstone structure to provide a lush green garden all year round. This area is protected from the harsh sunlight, adding to the cooling effect.

This tour is a great insight into Nitmiluk, where you will learn from our passionate tour guides. There is always something new to discover on every tour.
