The traditional custodians of Yuin country invite you to come, walk and listen to a sacred dreaming of Djirringanj country, heartland of the Yuin people. Ngaran Ngaran Culture Awareness located on the South Coast of New South Wales is an Aboriginal owned and operated initiative.

This premium nature camping experience will enlighten you to a traditional way of knowing and you will experience first-hand, Yuin ceremony and dreaming stories that have been passed down through generations creating an intimate connection to Country. Many parts of the Narooma, Bega Valley and Bermagui region on the South Coast hold sacred significance for the Yuin Aboriginal community for tens of thousands of years, yet these dreaming stories are not widely known.

Ngaran Ngaran Culture Awareness (NNCA) was established in 2011 and is an Aboriginal owned and operated Cultural service provider running Aboriginal tourism experiences in the Narooma/Tilba region on the South Coast of New South Wales on Yuin Country.

Your lead guide is Dwayne ‘Naja’ Bannon-Harrison with over 17 years of experience along with 9 generations of cultural teachings passed down. Dwayne and the family team at NNCA invite all walks of life onto Yuin country.

  • Participate in and witness traditional Aboriginal ceremony, dance, yidaki (didgeridoo), and yarning circle

Itinerary Features

Day One:
Traditional Welcome - the immersive experience begins with a welcoming to Yuin country this will include language , song & smoking ceremony followed by dinner, a tour briefing and traditional yarning circle.

Day Two:
Sunrise Ceremony – the day begins with greeting one of the Yuin people’s elements in a traditional ceremony with spectacular ocean scenery. This is followed by a continental breakfast.

Djirringanj Dreaming guided half day tour – this on country journey involves heading out seeing significant areas for the Yuin people following the Djirringanj Dreaming trail. Travelling to several sites with some short moderate walks to immerse and learn about traditional knowledge.
Packed lunch with Indigenous twist will be provided.

Cultural nature retreat afternoon - arrival back at the accommodation is between 2-3pm a traditional forage & cooking demonstration, sound healing meditation & afternoon local cheese and fruit platter awaits.

Indigenous Twist Food Journey Dining Experience (2 nights)- be taken on a unique high quality dining experience in our amazing nature eating space. Mirritya Mundya Indigenous Twist have worked some of the best chefs in the country, so sit back and be ready for a remarkable immersion into the tradition of the oldest food culture in the world.

Traditional Reflection Yarning Circle – reflecting with each other on the days experience around the fire immersed in Mother Earth's elements with a nice warm Indigenous tea, is a truly a grounding & connected way of finishing your special day on country. This time and space will leave you exhaustively content.

Day Three:
Farewell Beach Ceremony - a morning beach ceremony concludes the formal part of the tour. These are traditional seasonal ceremonies that can range from a whale dreaming to a traditional healing ceremony. This is followed by a farewell brunch.

Things to know

This is a 2 night (40 hour) experience commencing at 5.30pm on Day 1 and concluding at 10-11am on Day 3

No alcohol is permitted on this experience. 

This experience is for ages 16 and over

All meals (Day 1- Dinner, Day 2 - Breakfast, lunch, dinner, Day 3 – Breakfast
2 nights accommodation at the Island View Beach Resort Narooma

The tour will be accommodated at the Island View Beach Resort Narooma.
These are the stay options for your high end nature camping experience: 

Belle Tent: Nature experience 1-2 people per tent-  en suite bathroom per tent (short walk) 2 x Queen Beds Twin Share - Queen Bed Couple - Sole use Queen Bed (extra) 

Safari Tent: Self contained with Queen Bed/Bathroom/Living/Deck 
Safari Tent is extra to standard tour price & has a maximum share capacity of 3 people 

Check in: From 5.30pm- 7pm Day 1    
Check out: Between 10am - 11am Day 3    

Note; Check in times are very strict for our experience, please let us know prior if require an earlier check in time.

What to bring
As this experience includes outdoor walking tours, we recommend guests wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring a backpack, sunscreen, hat, and water bottle. If wet weather is predicted, it is recommended to pack wet weather gear and a change of light warm clothes for the day walk.

Airport Transfers
Bus transfers are available for additional costs from Moruya (Local), Sydney and Canberra Airports.

A Note About Our Experiences

Ngaran Ngaran Culture Awareness offers two key experiences. Both experiences include a range of cultural experiences across 2 nights that starts on the evening of Day 1 and concludes mid-morning on Day 3. Please see below the key points of difference to assist in deciding which experience better suits you.

The Gulaga Creation Experience offers National Park immersion with moderate-mid range shared cabin accomodation. This experience includes higher physical activity than the Djirringanj Dreaming Tour.

The Djirringanj Dreaming Tour is a high end camping experience with a fine dining menu and cooking demonstrations. It is less physically demanding than the Gulaga Creation experience.
