A note from our CEO on COVID-19
As a supporter of Welcome to Country, I am writing to update you on our actions in response to COVID-19. The health and well-being of our operators, staff and travellers is of paramount importance. Additionally, of prime importance is ensuring that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are safe.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic all non-essential travel to Aboriginal communities should be avoided. The Department of Health has identified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (due to higher rates of chronic illness) as an at-risk category, so we ask you to reconsider travel plans. Many remote communities in Northern Territory have already closed to prevent the spread of the virus to vulnerable people, this includes some of our operators.
We are following all government guidelines in regards to travel and are in close contact with our operators and their communities. We will continue to promote our operators so that when the virus passes there will be forward bookings for their businesses. We also recognise that these are uncertain times for travellers so we have implemented flexible conditions for booking amendments.
The virus will have an ongoing impact on communities and the tourism industry. As we push through the virus and come out the other side, we do encourage people to support local businesses and holiday here this year.
