QUEENSLAND

Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast begins about 100 km north of Brisbane starting at the charming coastal city of Caloundra and stretching north to the Cooloola section of the Great Sandy National Park. Home of the laid back lifestyle the Sunshine Coast is defined by pretty villages, renowned surf spots and spectacular hinterland, but it is the unique communities that create the true spirit of the Sunshine Coast.

Maroochydore is the cultural capital and urban centre of The Sunshine Coast. While surfers and golfers will love Coolum. The lush village Eumundi in the Noosa hinterland will satisfy market shoppers and art lovers and the Pumicestone Passage is rich in natural beauty. Each village has its own feel and personality to experience and explore.

Noosa is the main hub of the Sunshine Coast, a quintessential holiday spot surrounded by beaches, Noosa is packed with trendy restaurant, hip cafes and fashion boutiques. While you're in Noosa, make sure to visit the Noosa National Park to take in spectacular coastal scenery and see an abundance of native Australian wildlife. Paddle through the Noosa Everglades and connect with nature, one of only two everglades systems in the world.

The Sunshine Coast is also the jumping off point to explore the Glass House Mountains, the Great Sandy National Park and World Heritage-listed Fraser Island. The eleven magnificent volcanic peaks of the Glass House Mountains are found in the hinterland. They are about a one-hour drive south of Noosa and offer sweeping views of the region. Take the Great Beach Drive through breathtaking sandy coastline all the way to the wild paradise that is Fraser Island. Along the way you will journey through national parks, world-heritage-listed wonders and encounter a myriad of local wildlife with the beach as your guide. The Great Sandy National Park offers endlessly long beaches, dramatic coloured-sand cliffs, natural sandblows, rocky headlands and pristine freshwater lakes and streams.

The Sunshine Coast is Kabi Kabi (Gabi Gabi) and Jinibara land, there is a wealth of Aboriginal history and culture in the region, that is just waiting to be explored. The Kabi Kabi and Jinibara have fascinating stories and cultural insights about The Sunshine Coast. There are many Aboriginal experiences available in the region from walking tours and art galleries to sailing the waters of the Kabi Kabi.

Welcome to Country is your guide to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experiences and products. As a not for profit organisation, our purpose is to address employment and economic outcomes in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses creates real positive social, cultural and economic outcomes for artists, families and communities. Aboriginal artist Mick Harding from Ngarga Warendj Dancing Wombat finds cultural and financial independence through his art. Booking an experience or buying an ethical product ‘puts money into our pockets and into our communities - we are closing the gap ourselves’ explains Mick.

Every booking or purchase through Welcome to Country supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, families and communities across Australia.
