About us

Explore Byron Bay is a local business that offers authentic Aboriginal
tours at Cape Byron and Broken Head. Our tours are guided by Delta Kay,
an Arakwal Bundjalung woman who is passionate about sharing local
Aboriginal culture. Delta is well known and respected as an Arakwal
elder in the Byron Shire. Her ancestors have lived in the area
surrounding Byron Bay for thousands of years and Arakwal customs,
knowledge, ceremonies and stories have been passed down to her for safe
keeping.

During the 2-hour guided walking tours, guests can expect to hear about
Arakwal existence before colonisation and how Arakwal Bundjalung people
cared for, and preserved the land. Delta shares special stories from her
ancestors and speaks about the need to care for sacred sites and the
natural environment and wildlife. She explains the devastating impact of
settlement and displacement on her people and how her ancestors gained
their Native Title and the opportunity to live back on their homelands.
While viewing some of Byron’s most spectacular scenery, Delta teaches
guests some Bundjalung language and shares information about bush
tucker, natural medicine, tools, weapons and artefacts.
